Durham, North Carolina is the head of Durham County and the Durham-Chapel Hill Metropolitan Area. The city of Durham itself boasts a population of 263,000 while its metropolitan area is 542,000. Incorporated in 1869 by Bartlett S. Durham, the city has partnered with developers across the globe and recently upgraded its downtown area.

Latest Housing Market Update

The housing market in Durham County has been heating up as of late.

In May 2017, home sales increased by 12.4% compared to May 2016 while the average sale price also experienced a hike, jumping more than 10% to $250,106. Total dollar volume in the county was $140.6 million in May 2017, a steep rise from the $113.4 million total in the same month last year.

Homes are on the market for 7 fewer days on average and the month’s supply of inventory fell over 30% year-over-year as people continue to realize how great of an area Durham is to call home.

This is not just a one-off, however, as sales activity has risen over the first five months of 2017 compared to 2016. Sales, average sale price, total dollar volume and new listings are all up year-over-year as homes continue to sell at an increased rate.
