About Us

Jim Enright is The Mortgage Strategist®.

Jim came to UNC-Chapel Hill as a junior transfer and never left. He is married to Donna and has two children, David and Katie.

In what seems like a past life, he founded Mortgage Choice, one of the first mortgage brokers in the Triangle. Mortgage Choice had 4 Triangle offices and closed over 10,000 loans in excess of $2 billion. They were recognized on INC Magazines list of the 500 Fastest Growing Companies in the USA twice - 1993 and 1994. The company was also ranked in the Triangle Fast 50 in 1993 and 1994.

Jim was in service to the mortgage broker industry as:

  • President (1993/1994) and founding member of the N.C. Association of Mortgage Brokers (NCAMB), now the NCAMP.
  • N.C. Broker of the Year in 1995.
  • Board of Directors (1995-1997), and Secretary (1998/1999) of the
National Association of Mortgage Brokers (NAMB)
  • NAMB-Chair of the Best Business Practices Committee for Phase 1.

When he is not working or doing family stuff, he likes to hike around to special places in the woods and sit on a rock in the river or on the bluffs overlooking the creek and listen. Sometimes for hours.

Recent and memorable hikes and adventures have been to:

  • Katahdin and the Knife's Edge
  • Rafting on the Upper Gauley and the Penobscot Rivers
  • Glacier National Park
  • The San Juan Islands
  • Zion and Brice National Parks
  • The Grand Tetons

A recent realization is that there are secluded and wondrous spots within miles of home!

Jim thoroughly enjoys live music and has three music pals who will go out on the spur of the moment or late on a weeknight to see some of the incredible musicians that come to the Triangle.

He has always listened to great rock and roll. In the last few years has been exposed to many great artists at the Merle Fest in the old time country/bluegrass vein. Some of these are Sam Bush, Del McCory, Jerry Douglas, Doc Watson, and Rhonda Vincent.

Jim particularly enjoys "choral, classical, or atmospheric" music that soothes, uplifts, and inspires. Examples of this would be: Mozart - Dance #12 from the Twelve German Dances and The Sleighride Dance from Three German Dances; the "Hallelujah Chorus" in Handel's Messiah; Eno - particularly the Apollo Atmospheres soundtrack, Popol Vuh, and Miles Davis-Kind of Blue. If you have suggestions for similar music, please let him know.

And not to forget, African and other World Music that gives you "happy feet and smilin' ears" -Tarika, Baaba Maal, Wasis Diop, Ali Farka Toure, and others.

And when he reflects on life, he is reminded of the lyrics of the sometime poets, writers, and maybe singers, who penned and sang:

"Sometimes the lights all shining on me
Other times I can barely see
Lately it occurs to me
What a long strange trip it's been..."

— Robert Hunter, Bob Weir, Phil Lesh, and Jerry Garcia
